Has anyone had any luck having a repro stock bent for DAH for them and if so, how much bend did you manage to get?

I've heard the Repro stocks don't like to be bent.

I didn't know they weren't supposed to bend. I bent mine twice. The first bend was about 1/4", by a friend that showed me the ropes, the second was another 3/8" in my fixture...all DAH measurements. I think it was Dennis Earl Smith that stated each stock was a unique challenge, no two the same.

I remember seeing your rig in your post on gunshop. com

That's a nice setup!

Others have not been so lucky according to their sob stories.

Mike Orlen bent my stock from 2 1/8" DAH to 2 1/2".

Dean,
I don't think it's so much Repro stocks that are susceptable to breaking, but rather whether or not the grain is lined up well.

Claro, black and english walnut all have a good success history of bending.

I haven't really studied Repro stocks, but possibly there are a lot with less than ideal grain in the wrist? I did note that there were a number of people that have broken the wrist of a Repro.

That is very likely the case Chuck - thanks.

Years ago I had a Steel Shot Special that I used to own bent up 1/4" at the heel (English walnut). No problema.

A quick look at the guns offered on the net and it looks like there's plenty of Repros with less than ideal grain in the wrist for bending.

I agree with that Chuck.

Mike Orlen bent about a 1/4" of cast out of my Repro 12 ga. Now I need to send it back to drop it a 1/4" at heel which I did not have him do the first time.

Yeah, I know that each piece is different, but a friend has about 3/8 - 1/2" of cast put into a 12 gauge PG Repro.
