I'm going to put the Spring Classic in Sanford on the calendar early so I don't miss it this year. Was wondering, which of the scheduled events do the Parker fellows participate in? Any other "heads ups" for this event? Thanks

Good question. I also wanted to know what hotel most stay? Is there a Hilton close by?

Paul,
There are two hotels that most of our members stay at. You would think after eight years of attendance I would know that info right off the top of my head but that is not the case. I'm sure there will be an announcement soon or perhaps someone who has the info handy will chime in. The big event that most PGCA members enter is the Parker vs LC Smith Challenge but there are many other events that are probably listed on Deep Rivers website by now.

The dates for the Southern this year are
april 26-28. Hampton Inn is good everywhere and the Comfort Inn is also very good in Sanford.

If you have not been to the Southern, graduate to the Hampton without stopping at the Comfort. The Hampton is the PGCA headquarters hotel. It is worth the extra money. Last year, the Parker and Smith display tent was on site at the "Dove Field" at the Challenge five stand. It is a short walk from the main display tent area and clubhouse. Great area to hang out and park your car.

Many of stay at the Comfort Inn and one of the benefits is nighttime security by off duty Sanford Police officers funded by the Virginia Vintagers and coordinated by Jent Mitchell. No worry about your vehicles and items left in them.

The Quality Inn does have its advantages, but in my experience cleanliness is not one of them. I'm seriously thinking about staying at the Hampton Inn this year.

Several years ago, "The Lovely Linda" told me that it was fine if I wanted to continue staying at the Comfort, but....you know the rest.

It's a flea bag motel for sure. Only bad part about not staying there is the proximity to the Wagon Wheel Restaurant (I think that's the name). Awesome gravy biscuits for breakfast.

If the Hampton Inn get's full, check out the Holiday Inn Express just up the road from the Hampton. The same quality as the Hampton inn. That's where I"m staying cause it don't cost me anything:whistle:

Paul, allow yourself plenty of time to get in a practice round on each of the two Challenge fields before your qualifier round or rounds. Bring plenty of deep woods bug repellent, ticks are plentiful. Temps. can reach the mid eighties. Shorts are optional. Did I mention the ticks? I think they may be due to a number of foxes lurking in the display areas. :) HTH, Fred.

I haven't stayed at the Comfort Inn since 2009 as we had to miss 1 or 2 years and we stayed in Cary last year (too far), but when we stayed there it was OK. I think the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn have been built since we last stayed in Sanford. Either Hampton or Holiday Inn are my first choices when I travel so I am curious as to how the Comfort Inn has depreciated since I was there last. I will certainly scout other locations while I'm there this year for future Southerns'.
