All,

The PGCA is eagerly looking forward to this years Spring Southern SXS event in Sandford, NC Thursday 4/25 to Sunday 4/28. We will once again be staying at the Hampton Inn in Sanford, NC. The PGCA has set aside a large room block at this hotel.

The rate is $94 per night. Please mention "Parker Gun Collectors Association" when making reservations to get the group rate.

At the event, we will have display tables available again this year in our tent. We should have approximately 10 tables available for display. The theme hasnt yet been picked (suggestions welcomed!), but the cost of the tables will be a request to donate two memberships for a friend, family member, or Youth member. ($80). Please contact me to reserve your table.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year!

I was talking to Jim Hall and he came up with what I thought was a great idea for this years theme at the Southern. "Guns with double ivory beads" any grade, hammer or hammerless. We have not done anything like that before and it might bring out some interesting guns! Food for thought! Gary

Hey I have guns with double Ivory beads:)

I just made reservations. The phone number (so you don't have to google it) is 919-775-2000

Parkers with Lyman twin ivory beads are not uncommon at all. $4.00 would get you those ivory beads. They were used on all the grades if so requested including the single barrel trap guns which, as far as I know, were standard equipment.

What about custom/upgrades? I know Jimm Hall has a fantastic Pachmyer 16ga upgrade.

Has a theme been decided on yet? How about small bores? Just thinking out loud

How about 28 gauges- Parker's gauge.

Josh Loewensteiner
01-26-2013, 05:22 AM
George,

I like the idea of 28's a lot but it could be too narrow. Not enough guns can be put together for display!

I do like the idea do the double beaded guns as well. Lets pin this down in the next couple of days.

Rich Anderson

You could combine the two catagories.

Bill Murphy

28 gauge was done in Ohio. There was no shortage of display guns and I even displayed an outrageous cased DHE vent rib 28. Kevin McCormack and I did an over the top Parker .410 display at Baltimore one year, but I don't know if PGCA has done .410s yet. Kevin's display had an Abercrombie and Fitch cased skeet, BHE vent rib, G Grade .410, factory A-1 Special Repro, Geoffrey Gournet engraved A-1 Repro, you name it. For a one table display, it was pretty neat.

Double beaded 28's? Hahahahaha!

How about we stick with ivory, en mass....?

Bill Murphy
01-26-2013, 09:56 AM
I have a couple of three beaded Parkers and another member has at least one. The Gold Hearts gun has three or four beads on the Damascus barrels as I recall, two gold and one or two ivory. I'll have to check.

How about we just have a Bill Murphy theme? I have a feeling he could just put on a one-man show. He would have to rent an armored car for transport. We might not have enough table space.

I like the 28 ga idea and I think there would be enough 28's for a display.

Guys,

If we can rally support and guns for 28s it can happen. Just takes a few guys to bring them out.

OK- I start it off with my two 28's..... VH26" and VHE30" both 00 frames.:bigbye:

Jent you should put this in the events forum not here.

Edgar is gonna buy a 28 just for the event.

Last call for ideas before this goes to committee.....

I have a couple of 28's, a DHE and a VHE, but no guns with twin ivories (a couple that are missing the rear bead though... does that count?)

Rich Anderson
01-29-2013, 08:58 AM
Dean I don't think the catagory was "it should of had twin beads", they both need to be there. :rotf:

While the displays at each of the events I've been to were great to see, none have had either a progression of one grade, largest bore to small, or one bore, progressing from lowest to highest grade. To me, a 'theme' of twin beds is pretty much a snore.

George M. Purtill
01-29-2013, 11:59 AM

Agreed- twin BEDS is a guaranteed snore.

I'm not going to correct my error, because then NO one will know what George is talking about. Plus, it's just more proof he's stalking me.
Actually, re-reading it, that was a pretty good, albeit accidental, pun. I still think twin BEADS is a pretty esoteric theme.

allen newell
01-29-2013, 02:40 PM
why not select a couple of high grades and ask for representative gagues in each grade for your display.

AH (all gagues)
BH (all gagues)
or other select grades and all gagues (eg; AH 12,16,20,28,410) in that grade of Parker

Dean Romig
01-29-2013, 05:03 PM
I wonder who might have a .410 AH or AHE

allen newell
01-29-2013, 07:10 PM
Dean, perhaps it would not be likely to find an AH 410 ga. gun for display. You could say the PGCA wants to display a selection of all gagues in grade CH and DH or whatever Parker grades the Committee would likely to be able to find a representative sample gague gun in those grades you wish to display. It would be wonderful to see a sample of all ga.'s in a particular grade (s). Has this been done before? Just a suggestion.

Dean Romig
01-29-2013, 10:15 PM
I know we have members who's collections are made up of just such Grade representations.

Maybe Parker No. 241576 will come out of hiding for this event... and, being a skeet gun it might even have twin ivories

Eric Eis
01-30-2013, 11:16 AM
So what is the display....? I think 28 ga's would be nice or if you want skeet guns or do C's or whatever, but twin bead guns....no:nono:

Bill Murphy
01-30-2013, 12:17 PM
Dean brought up a good point. Where is .410 AHE Skeet #241,576? I haven't seen it since it sold. Dean and I are lucky to share some pictures. Gary Carmichael for several years displayed his vertical collection of P Grades. It is the only one of this type I had seen. I hope this collection is still in one piece today, but I doubt it. If it is, I would be glad to add my marked P Grade lifter to the display. I doubt that even our hero, Gary, had one of those.

Daryl Corona
01-30-2013, 12:32 PM
I'd also be happy to add my P 20- the last one to leave Meriden.

Dave Purnell

I think a good display would be the "un-ducumented Parkers", the missing link so to speak.

Mark Ouellette
01-30-2013, 03:23 PM
An excellent idea from Elliot Island!

George M. Purtill
01-30-2013, 05:43 PM
Im sorry i missed that completely when you said undocumented parkers.
I was thinking of the current problem with vehicles in Hartford that couldn't be moved because of the Presidents moratorium.

Bill Murphy
01-30-2013, 05:58 PM
Undocumented? Do you mean A-1 Specials that are "not in the book"? Or 23 1/2" barrel Parkers that are "not in the book"? Maybe we can get Chuck to write letters on these guns, just for the Annual Meeting. My gun show buddy once "wrote" a letter of provenance on the Sagamore Hill letterhead documenting an H&R single barrel to Teddy Roosevelt. It was a popular conversation piece at shows for a while.

Josh Loewensteiner

Spring Southern SXS theme is 28ga guns! Bring 'em out for show and tell!

edgarspencer

Now I know I shouldn't go. I'll be worse than Lindsay Lohan in a package store.

Gary Carmichael Sr
02-05-2013, 09:03 PM
Come on now Edgar, It's not what happens in the package store with her it's after she leaves and the trouble begins! Dam right shame is what it is! Gary

edgarspencer
02-05-2013, 09:22 PM
Gary, few things lift my kilt more than a nice 28ga. Purtill brought his DHE over one Saturday morning just to wind me up. My buddy Keith was over and even he got to shimmying a bit. Last time that happened, my eyes popped out far enough to knock my glasses off staring at a certain 20ga Lifter last fall. I had to go get my prescription checked after that. When my dad passed away, I let my son have his H&H 28 ga Royal and he sold it to buy an airplane, leaving me with 3 flats of Eleys sitting in the gunroom. I ain't been right since, I tell ya.

I'm thinking an intervention is needed. Is there anybody out there with too many 28 gauge Parkers?

allen newell
02-06-2013, 08:30 AM
George, are you willing to share your findings?

George M. Purtill
02-06-2013, 08:34 AM
George, are you willing to share your findings?

That would violate Eggar's patient HYPPA rights.

Rich Anderson
02-06-2013, 08:44 AM
I only have 2 1/2 28's:corn:

allen newell
02-06-2013, 08:49 AM
Very good George. Here's one for you. See that sock in the picture?....it goes with the BHE.

Starting with you? Yeah there's at least one.

Daryl Corona
02-06-2013, 12:46 PM
Now you have me feeling deprived as I have only 2 lowly V grade 28's which to display.:crying:

allen newell
02-06-2013, 01:01 PM
Daryl, anytime those 'lowly V grade 28's' of yours need some company, you can ship them my way.

Daryl Corona
02-06-2013, 01:08 PM
That's very kind of you Allen. I will certainly keep that in mind as I grow older but the V grades never look older. They seem ageless. Wish I could look and function that good at 90+ years. Hope you can make it to the Southern.

allen newell
02-06-2013, 01:19 PM
Hi Daryl,
I'd love to get down there but it all depends on how Jean is doing with treatment etc. The BHE that I have on the block may make it down there, I'd love to be there with it!

Mark Ouellette
02-06-2013, 01:22 PM
Allen,

If one wanted to sell a $25000 Parker BHE the Southern SxS would be an excellent venue...

Mark

allen newell
02-06-2013, 01:34 PM
I think that's where it's going to end up Mark and one of our PGCA members has offered to take it down for me in case I can't make it there. I will have to leave the Orvis stripped gun sock that is with the BHE inside the A&F leather case that entombs this nice double and probably give it to George P as a reminder of the good deal he is letting slip through his fingers. lol

But seriously, a number of PGCA Members have told me privately that the Southern is really the best place to get a better dollar for it.
