Looking for info and value on this gun. I have read a bit but cannot figure out much other than it seems to be an 1886 10gauge.
The Lug is marked with what looks like js and o2. even appears to be a partial 7 that is wore off behind the two.
Where the grade should be all I am finding is circle T 5 and a serial #. Nothing more. Any help appreciated. It belonged to a friend of the family who just passed. Had been in his family for generations.

Is half of the hammer screw on left lock missing?

The condition of the barrels is a key to value
How long are they? Have they been cut or honed? Are the bores pitted and are there dents?
And is it on face -does it lock up tight?

Not sure if that screw is broke or not I will have to look at the other side to see if its the same.
As for the barrels they have not had anything done to them. I will measure length. Yes it locks tight and seems to be in good working condition. As for pits and dents, there is a small dent on the outside of the right barrel but when you look down the inside you cannot see the dent. There is a VERY SMALL amount of pitting inside, maybe 3 spots 1/4 to 1/2 inch close to the chamber that is pitted lightly. They would probably buff most of the way out with a bore brush but until I get an idea of what the gun is and what its rough value might be I don't want to mess with the gun.

Yes the screw is broke. The barrels measure 30 1/8 inches.

Dale, the 2 on the barrel lug is the frame size. The grade indication will be on the water table above the SN. If it had one. Looks like a grade 0 or a 1 by the engraving on the side of the reciever.

So any idea how many of this gun were made? I read something on the gun ID pages about only 5000 twist barrel guns being made but again no clue if that includes this year and gauge gun etc.
I really need to know what a fair price would be for this gun. The lady who owns it is willing to sell me the gun since she is a friend of the family. I have no idea what kind of offer to make her. I don't want to be unfair to her nor do I want to over pay. I mean is this a $100 wall hanger or a $1000 collectable?

there were 34.636 grade 0's with plain twist, many others in other grades.

So this gun is a plain twist and not just a twist? If so how do you tell the difference?

some were marked "stub twist" and some others as "plain twist" or as "twist" which is also listed as PT - or plain twist for grade 0, so its the same thing as near as I can tell
have you looked on gunbroker or guns international for what similar guns have sold for.
to me ( not an expert ) it looks solid but rough, a possible shooter if the condition allows, it may clean up well.
unless the barrels have been cleaned up, I am surprised that dent doesn't show on the inside. unless it is the lighting it seems deep enough to show.
but it is not in a collector's piece condition. those who buy more than I may hazzard a price.

It says on the top rib if it is Twist, not Plain Twist. Neither of those three types of barrel steel would affect the value of this gun.

No I have not looked on gun broker to see what others have sold for because until posting here I wasnt sure what this gun was to be able to compare. I really figured someone here could ball park me a value. If nothing else tell me what they would offer for this gun.

To sell the gun on this forum you need to be a paid member. Posting that it's for sale or asking for "offers" usually quickly gets these threads shut down. Just be aware.....

$400 seems a tad low...should be able to get over $500 i would think...but it will take a while.

I don't think Dale is trying to sell the gun. He's trying to get an honest value of the gun to buy it from the family of a friends estate, with out cheating anyone. Dale, I think 400.00 to 450.00 is fairforwhat I have seen in the pictures. At that price there should be no guilt on anyones concience.

Thanks for the general ideas on price. As stated above I have NO intetnt on selling this gun. I am simply trying to get a fair value to purchase the gun from a friend of the family.

he stated up front he is a buyer, not a seller
we just don't see it often enough to believe it :)
