just finished up some 8 ga deer rounds...they are as follows...3 1/4 inch winchester see thru hull plastic...win.209 primer...40 grains of alliant blue dot...1 sp8 rem. wad withshot cup cut off..then two 1/2 inch filler wads... then one 2 ounce round lead ball..hot glue ball in place... all thats needed then is a deer to shoot... this is a mild load very good on gun and shoulder but should be bad on deer... ive shot several of these loads in the parker with the short barrels... charlie

jeez and i thought my 335gr 60 cal saboted ball load was sumthin, lol i use 100gr of FF 777 and fiber wads, then a sturdy CIL ramwad with a 600dia ball, a card over the ball then a roll crimp, pretty mean in a 12 gauge 40 yards shoots as gd as a slug gun, no kidding,
who says damascus barrels shouldnt shoot slug loads? lol i shoot this load in a remington 1894 sxs 12g Grade A with ejectors, both barrels choked improve modified

and for the record, CIL is long out of business, i bout 2000 of these wads at a show for 10$ they work well for paper shotshell loads as i have data for them in the bag they came in for smokeless loads

Charlie, what are you using to cast those balls? Is there any sign of accuracy?

bill im using a mold made of brass that i got from a fellow over in england...the accuracy is not great bill..ive shot the load proably 50 times and on the average it groups in a 8 inch circle at 40 yards..if i had good sights on the old parker i mite be able to stretch it out to 50 yards. but my sight on the old parker is a huge front bead...at present im limiting myself to a 35 yard shot..have not pulled the trigger yet but hopefully will soon get a shot... some one here on the forem gave me name of the fellow who makes the moulds.they are top quality and very nice with my name the 8 ga and size of the mold on it...bill you d be proud of one of these in your collection or anybody with an 8 ga gun..you do have to measure the bore size at the muzzle..i kepy mine bore size at .004 under the actual bore size...my old 8 ga barrels have been cut from 32 inch to 26 1/4 inch so she has a pretty good size bore...the ball that goes to the parker will not even start to roll down the old f a lommis i got from destrey...so it is important to measure the bore good... i need to practice some more these loads im using aredecent on the gun and shoulder... charlie

Charlie - A .490 round ball runs about 39 to a pound and over 70 grains of FF will take a modest sized deer right off its feet inside 75 yards.

That load of yours ought to field dress it as well
