Friday (Nov 9th), I heard on the radio, some energy and mining stocks were down 30%, but Smith & Wesson and Ruger were up 10%....so what? Well I see ITX went up a little less than $4 per pound. Tungsten based products are all taking large jumps in cost. Not much affect on upland hunters, but sticker shock has just set in as I realize my duck shell cost has now exceeded $50 per box.

Sure makes a guy reconsider using a damascus gun for much waterfowling.

theo the high cost of non toxic shot is just gonna continue to climb...ive been target practiceing with some still shot...even used it on a squirl hunt it does ok..killed a coupla squirls at 45 yards or so....was not shooting damascus barrels but i have shot steel shot in damascus barrels and wire twist with no ill efects...these guns were at least modified choke to clyinder bore...ive been looking at some new turkey loads they want 37.00 for a box of 5 shells...like i said just looking.... charlie

Charlie, are you using a mylar wrap with the steel or just regular steel wads?

ive used the mylar on my reloads and just factory loads as they were...on my reloads with mylar i did use roll crimped method...steel will not kill as far out as lead but it will kill cleanly out to 45 yards in my opinion...it shoots a tighter pattern than lead...plus its legal and fairly cheap...factory loads in steel for 2 3/4 inch areabout 7.50 a box of 25 at walmart...just drop in size in steel at least one size best to drop 2 sizes below the loads usally used in lead...all my guns are shooters some with good bores and some with rough bores...i shoot steel bb loads through the old 8 ga regurly it has stub twist barrelsat 40 yards shes a dead squirl or a pop can... charlie
