Only looks like a Parker Bros. on the outside --

The patent for the lock mechanism used in the Philadelphia Arms Co. FOX gun was Patent No. 767,557 granted to Harry H. (Hunter) Fox, Ansley's younger brother. My guess is that Ansley may have had his brother file it because he still had some contractural ties to Winchester Repeating Arms Co. which he'd become a professional shooter for in early 1900. Patent No. 714,688 for a bolting mechanism, which Ansley applied for on January 17, 1902, when he was still actively shooting for Winchester was not used in the guns as made. I wonder if Winchester laid claim to it?

Ed,

Want to tell me the serial number of the gun so I can add it to my list?

Dave

That is a very interesting gun! I was not aware that AH Fox offered anotehr model other than the first Sterlingworths with the recessed hinge pin. But this gun would predate those.
And that trigger plate is neat for a fox.

Now that gun could easily be mistaken for a Parker sitting on a rack.

the Philadelphia Gun was an Ansley H Fox design, not an AH Fox Gun company product.

the company changed names and location of incorporation several times in the first couple years. check the pre Fox Gun links on the Fox Collectors site for the round about trip to the AH Fox gun made in Philadelphia.

small point - and no doubt the cosmetics of this gun would have cause confusion - and some trademark complaints I would guess

A Chevy body and a Ford motor? Now it is confirmed that Ed Good was raised by wolves.
