Was just thinking today about how, not too many years ago, I'd have been starting to study about packing for Louisiana and the opening weekend down at Delacroix. I've not been since the hurricane, we were just starting to talk about going back when Ed got sick again. Here's a shot of Ed and Parker Dog the last time we were down that way. We'd had a good shoot that morning, green and blue wing teal, couple Hollywood mallards, pintails, and mottled ducks.

God, Destry; you are killing me! Like we discussed that day in the blind last month in Canada, so many lost so much when Delacroix Island was destroyed. As my friend Irvan Perez from Poydras, LA (epicenter of Katrina's landfall) told the newsmen about his wife Louise; "I'm glad she never lived to see this - it would have killed her on the spot."

We very rarely ever had a bad morning down there. I can only remember a couple of times we didn't shoot a limit and we always shot ducks. I think I was there for 9 opening days in a row if memory serves. Went the first time in 1996 then every year till the Hurricane. Ed went with me the first time in 2000 I believe.

Hollywood mallard......AKA a grinner is a spoonbill.

Destry, the ducks have also been scarce on the Texas Gulf Coast since the hurricanes and the evaporation of rice farming.
