Amazing similarity in the two rabbits executed by two different artists. Did one inspire the other?
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is first published in 1906 but Beatrix was an accomplished artist long before that. She sold many of her paintings of animals and flowers and such in 1890 so who knows when the paintings of her "Peter Rabbit" first came on the scene in England and abroad. Peter Rabbit wallpaper was first commercially sold in 1905, a year before the book was published.
Calvin, I thought I had a picture of the rabbit engraved in the underside of your Parker but I can't seem to find it. Will you post a picture in this thread for comparison? What year was your "Peter Rabbit" Parker made?

Any Idea who might of did it at Parker? How many engravers did they have in 81?

Parker Bros most likely would have had one Master Engraver with a few apprentice or journeyman engravers. The Master Engraver was generally responsible for the layout design and the execution of the higher and highest grades while the other engravers, depending on their level of experience and quality of their work were given the assignments of the less demanding engraving. Someplace around here I have a chronology of Parker Bros. engravers, stockers, shoe filers, barrel makers, etc. but I am in the process of rearranging and tidying up my office/sports room so it would be a bit difficult to put my hands on it quickly.

Hi Calvin,
These rabbits are from 1889. Not quite as old as yours but very similar.
