I have found a project I would like to buy but would like some imput. Gun has had some mods done to it that I would need to correct to put it back to where it belongs. I am not completly green to Parker shotguns and I believe the configuration deems it worth while to put some money in. I know that i may never get out of it what I put in. Here are the questions. That said I always appreciate some reality checks.

Gun has been buffed and hot blued, " Ouch" I would need the gun engraving re-cut, and case colored. Also need the barrels done, but it is a 10 gauge E grade with special Steel barrels. Barrels originally weighed 6 lbs 4 oz unstruck. Barrels now weigh 5 lbs 9 oz. chambers lengthened to 3 1/2 inches. Chocked Full and Fuller, and I am told that the thinest point up front is .024. Seems to be lots of meat at the chambers.

Beavertail forend installed, wood matches perfect, but it is clearly not original as the gun was built in 1920. So I might just have the forend re-shaped to a splinter forend. Butt stock is original butt has a whiteline pad. Other wise in excellent refinished condition. No records avalible on the gun it seems by checking the Parker letter site.

I would love to hear your thoughts, and and some estimates to have some of this work done. Mainly the reigraving and case color hardening. I would like to corespond with some of you big bore shooters. If you send be an email or want to call me, I am posting my information.

It sounds like a worthy project Paul. The first thing you need to do is NOT take somebody else's word for the barrel wall thickness. With the chambers lengthened you need to pay close attention to the thickness at the foreward end of the chambers where the cones begin.
The first name that comes to mind for reengraving and re-case coloring is Doug Turnbull. He's not cheap but the work from his shop is excellent and he can do anything you want in the way of a forend and perfect checkering. They are a full-service shop.

Second deans statement on this being a worthy project. Without knowing your purchase price, it is hard to tell how worthy. But a 10g. EH with steel barrels doesn't pop up every day.
The issues with engraving and CCH work can be easily corrected with just some money and time. And yes, the barrels should be completely checked out. Also, if they have also been hot blued, the integrity of the solder joints should be inspected as well.

Reshaping that BTFE would be a great way to go. Keep the cost down and work with what you've got. The hard part is done on that one.

Phil, By the time steel barrels were offered the EH designation was pretty much over. The gun would have been listed as a GH. Is it possible it was rebarreled by Parker with Special Steel barrels? A letter may prove interesting. Is the water table marked EH? As others have said it sounds like a great project.
