Scott, If your gun has the stepped bolt those barrels will not fit without machining them for the stepped bolt plate. If I was you I would just figure on having the stepped bolt plate installed on those early barrels. Most likely the barrels will have to be fitted to the frame anyway.

Who does all that?

The "stepped" plate is the last modification of the plate and carries the 1910 patent date.

dave, my gun has no step in the bolt plate( 1st type) and barrels don't have any bolt plate(made before they came out 1895) looks like it should work but don't know??

I wonder why the 1910 redesign would be considered an improvement...?

Lateral stability Mr. Romig

One would think the barrel lug set in the recess in the water table would lend all the lateral stability necessary.

If you intend on using a set of earlier barrels without the wear plate on a later gun that had one you would just have to also replace the bolt with an earlier one. Or remove those ears off the sides of your existing bolt. Would be best to just replace it.

Is there a catalogue page that shows the 1905 style bolt and bolt plate?

Dave, I searched through my complete set of reprint catalogs and there are only pictures of the 1910 style bolt assembly. I couldn't find anything on the 1905 bolt.
