Question: Were skeleton buttplates ever blued or just CC'd?? If some skeleton buttplates were blued was it specific to a certain period?? Thanks Craig

But the screws were CCH, right? If so, I wonder why?

As explained in TPS, the SSBP's and TG's and their screws were nitre blued, which gave an irridescent blue/black sheen. Later Rem Parkers used a softer black bluing process ( carbona blue?) that was black and wore more quickly.

This is the best photo I have on hand without taking more.

I think that most people would think that the SSBP's were CCH due to the fact that most you see are bare now-a-days. Most guns that have any use to them are going to have bluing wear off the buttplate after 100 years.
