Delgreco Combs

Does anyone out there have any photos of what the comb tip would look like on a Delgrego restock? I think I remember seeing talk about his combs being differnet than Parker originals.

Were they fatter?

Do you mean DelGrego & Son?

Their shop is only a couple minutes away from the Remington plant in Ilion, that would have made a nice stop for you on your recent trip as well as the museum.

PS. I have several Parker's with "full combs" that came from the factory, a particular VH is really fat.

Both guns below are both 12ga VH's on 1 1/2 frames, the gun on the left is from 1928 and the stock is orginal to the gun although it was refinished before I bought it. How's that for a fat comb?

That is exactly what I am speaking of.
So it was not uncommon to see that fat of a comb come out of Meriden?
I actually did not even think of stopping by Delgreco's shop while I was in Ilion. I will have to next time as I do intend to get back to the museum sometime soon.

I have 4 guns with fatter than normal combs, all stocks are orginal. I have letters on two guns with fat combs, a GH and VH, both were ordered that way.

The fat comb is seen fairly often on trap guns, both single and double, as well as on some heavy field configured guns. It is a great design to use when restocking a big double gun.

I can shoot the pictured gun pretty well, I shot a round of trap with it two weeks ago and broke 24, I had not shot it in 6 months or more before that. I have to really be sure that both beads are inline before calling pull. The gun would benefit from some cast as the big comb makes it easy have my head too far to the left and not look straight down the rib.

The mention of a full comb would generally be in the order book. The stock books normally only give length and drop at heel dimensions. Sometimes the full comb is referred to as a "military comb", especially in A.H. Fox records.

It made my day to see the picture of the fat combed gun. I have a Remington 16 ga , #1 framed, striaght stocked VH. The stock is properly numbered under the trigger gaurd tang. Never seeing another like it sometimes made me wonder if the stock was original. Now I'm sure it is.

Here is an example of how DelGrego shaped the "nose of the comb" on his restocks. This particular Parker may not necessarily have been done by DelGrego but this is done in the same style.

I have a DHE 20 trap with the fat comb. All original, it's the first one I had seen stocked like that.

Yeah, I have one in now for restock that has the fat comb and that is why I was questioning it. First time I have seen it too.
