Interestingly people in the country used to hid valuables in the john, take a string tied to a gunny sack and hang them down the john hole. People are always asking if they can dig around some of the old homesites on the property here. One had the john standing until a few years ago a tree fell on it and crushed what was left of a two holer! This would be a great photo story.Caption could read " View from the hole"

People digging in privy holes are usually looking for old bottles not buried treasure. Some great bottle finds have been made in them over the years. Also some great glass target balls oddly enough. There have been several stories in "On Target" magazine about privy dig finds.
