I have an opportunity to purchase a 20 Ga. VH at a reasonable price. Externally the gun is nice, nothing fancy but nice. It's a little loose on the face, but that can be dealt with. My main concern is the barrel thickness. On one barrel, at one spot near the back, the thickness goes down to 15 thousands. Is that critically bad? Should I leave this one alone?

At 15-thou I'd pass. That's pretty thin and it's not like 20 ga. V-grades are hard to find. Regardless of the relative safety of 15-thou, I have to think that would be a tough gun to sell if you ever wanted to part with it. Personally, I wouldn't seriously consider a gun with less than 25-thou unless it was a rare find and otherwise in top shape.

Craig:
I assume you measured the suspect barrel correctly... but I'd still be interested to know where, "near the back" of the barrel this measurement turned up. Not near the chamber I trust! But if you measured accurately, any .015 thickness in that tube is not acceptable.

That's like two sheets of copy paper. I've heard of pretty thin barrels about 4 or 5 inches from the barrel ends, but its a whole different ball game back near the breech area.

Thanks to all of you. It was measured by a professional, not me. All he does is barrels and I hold him in the highest regards. He measured both barrels, the one side measures at least 21 thousands. The other side has this spot, I don't know the exact spot, but it is closer to the breech than the barrel ends.

Maybe I should focus a little better before I fire off my mouth. I need the following Auto ejector parts for a project Parker with a # 2 frame. left and right hammer, left and right main springs, left and right combo sear, cocking toggle and sear spring. Please don't laugh, I really need this stuff. A project can only go on for so long.
