this week is sort of an anniversary, two years ago this weekend we were at an antique show and I painfully walked away from a light 12 Parker 28" O hammer gun at a very reasonable price because I knew the barrels had been honed but had no way of knowing how much.

That is when I started posting here, originally asking questions about wall thickness gauges. Since then I have passed on a couple Birmingham guns and almost on another Parker because of thesame question.

Now I am ready

here is the latest tool kit that will ride in the truck on the off chance history repeats itself.

I found a beat up wood box labled for a depth gauge, it had no finish, a boken latch and sprung hinges, but the pigeon crap was free. I cleaned it up, reglued the finger joints, replaced the hardware, varnished it and lined the inside bottom with felt left over from restoring a Machinist's chest restoration, added some brackets and a small box for storage,

so here is the end result - it has a walll thickness and a bore gauge, the box insert will hold a tape measure, a scale, a magnafying glass and I'll toss in some snap caps. all that remains is to find room for a small digital caliper, and add some elastic straps to hold some papers with bore and choke specs in the inside of the lid.

Hi,

Any recommendations for a retailer who sells a wall thickness gauge?

Best,

Matt

That is one cool box and what you did with it. You should make some leather handles kind of like the ones on Parker Boxes. Bruce put some good pictures of Parker boxes on here somewhere. ch

I believe there is a brownells sticker on the wall thickness guage.

i haven't decided on handles yet, I remember the Parker case thread, I will go back and look.

yes both the Manson wall thickness Gauge and the Skeets bore guage came from Brownells, I have ordered a lot of gunsmithing tools and supplies from them and have never gone wrong.
