Eastern buckshot sizes run from 000 to 4. Western buckshot runs from 2 (equals 000) to 9 (equals 4). I have one Remington shotshell in my collection that actually designates 'Eastern' on the topwad.

one of the top wads was lose in one of the 8 ga brass shells....so curosity got the better of me i removed the topwad to look at the no 5 buck...they were stacked really neat in the hull...there was 27 of those no 5 buck in there i dont know if these were homemade buckshot or what...they were of very very soft lead...and the roundness was not to good....wish now that i had weighed the 27 pellets to see what kind of load the fellow wllow had loaded up...i shoulda checked the powder type but bet it was black powder...the shells were loaded in a brass hull stamped winchester no 8....very small primer used in it..i get the camera going again i will take some pivtures of the shell and maybe it s contents one thing for sure it had a very good waxed top wad...it was still very good condition.... charlie
