Fall SXS Shoot

I shot at Backwoods this morning and discussed Rick's plans for the Oct shooting. Sometimes Rick sets up a separate small gage(20ga & lower) course from the large gage one and sometimes he combines them togeather . He has also set up three separate courses,small Ga, moderate large ga and then a third any gage one for a different event. HERE IS THE QUESTION- If he sets up a small ga for the small ga events and a separate large gage does anyone that is going to be shooting have a problem with that approach? The only down side I see is friends that want to shoot different gages will not shot that round together. Please give me a PM if you are planning on shooting and
have an opinion I know-long winded but those whom know me....:smiley7:

If you're talking about the Southern SXS Fall Classic, I've been to three of them, and Rick has always set up a second separate course for the sub-gage events. Rick is an awesome target setter, and does a super job setting challenging, but fun, sub-gage targets, ditto for the large gauge targets. This wouldn't be possible if both were shot on the same course, and would make for some pretty congested pathways if the sub-gage and large gauge stations were sprinkled amongst each other along the trail. That's been his program for the Prelim and sponsored events on Friday and Saturday. The Main event shot on Sunday has, at least in the years I've attended, always been shot on an entirely different and larger course, and obviously one could use any gauge they preferred. It is probably the best weekend Vintage shotgun event that I've ever attended as it is currently set up from a shooters standpoint, and I've never heard even a single complaint from any shooter.
Just my observations, with a little opinion thrown in for no extra charge!

At the Spring Southern, the small gauge and large gauge stations are on the same course and shooters create squads that are the same persuasion with no inconvenience. It should be of no additional inconvenience if the courses were separate. Personally, I will shoot on any course that Rick Hemingway sets or designs.

Rick is a true professional. He understands how to set a course as well as targets that are fair to everyone yet challenging to everyone at all levels at the same time.

What ever he does/ plans will be great. I am really looking forward to the Fall Event.

Sounds like fun esp with a small guage course. to bad it's in October during bird season:nono: I'll be shooting a small guage event with the Grouse and Woodcock.

There's nothing to prevent someone from shooting a small-gauge gun on the large-gauge course and vice-versa if folks just want to shoot together. We often do this at Hausmann's and at Addieville... we just want to shoot together and have fun. It isn't always about scores.

Thanks Guys!! Rick is the absolute best and his course setter Dave Lehman is one of the reasons that place is so much fun. We will do a separate sub gage course and route . Rich is spending $100,000 to improve the place and I think everyone will go "WOW" Of course Becky does improve the scenery . See y'all in October. David, it's not one day missed in the grouse woods, it's two days down at day or two there and another 2 days back. Now what would you prefer to do, some of the best days of the season grouse hunting or shooting claybirds :eek: ? I know what Rich would say. I said before, I hope this works out but it "sucks" to place the meeting in the middle of the best month of bird season that we wait all year for :crying: Eric

David I think you'll miss me if I'm not there....I'm touched:crying: but it's Grouse season and you can shoot clay birds much longer than you can hunt Grouse. A day lost from the coverts can't be reclaimed:nono:

I will extend to you an open invitation to experience the Grouse woods of the Upper Pennisula anytime during the season. I have accomadations (running water, flush toilet and shower) some people use all of these during a whole week of bird hunting:eek:

I think that 16ga hammer gun of yours would make for a great Grouse gun but we may never know, perhaps it can only break the occasional clay bird:whistle:
