Hello all,

I have just acquired another parker, a GH 12g with 30" barrels on 1 1/2 frame.

I have seen straight gripped guns on this Site, and have owned a few DH/E configured this way but, is it less common to see a GH with a straight grip?

Also the wrist seems extremely dainty...

I am awaiting a letter, but what can you tell me to help me pass the time?

Sn 132161

Photos will follow on the next sunny day (I'm having no luck with artificial light)

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

Take your pictures of the gun with a neutral background, outside on an overcast day. Bright sun or harsh artificial light, as well as photo flash, will not produce the pictures that you can get from a natural overcast day that defuses the light and allows good detail to show.

Most Parker Bros. (pre-Remington) guns were produced with nice slim wrists. I prefer a gun made this way. Maybe a bit more prone to breaking there but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

I've seen Ed Muderlak kill an awful lot of ducks with a factory straight grip GH. He was deadly with it, even shooting wrong handed after he lost the vision in his right eye.

Wonderful gun Mark, I think that wood will look great once you clean it up.

Lovely gun Mark. I'll second Dave's reply, clean the old girl up and enjoy. There is nothing nicer than a straight grip gun- no matter who made it.

Great gun. The head of the stock looks like it is saturated with old oil. Soak it and the forend a couple days in lacquer thinner to draw the oil out and refinish with Bulls Eye shellac and linseed oil, then have the checkering recut. The oil will degrade the wood if you don't. That looks like nice wood.

Mark,
Nice find! The stock looks pretty high, what are the dimensions?. Also looks relatively unmonkeyed with too, the hing pin screw is an easy fix. Straight stock Parkers are great, and so hard to find.

Thanks Chris,

The stock dimensions are:
- LOP 14"
- DAC 1 1/2"
- DAH 2 1/2"

I shot a round of sporting clays with it this morning, didn't set any records, but the slip-on pad felt loose/slippery or something, I'll try again Wednesday.

It is quite "unmonkeyed with", how would you address the hinge pin screw?

Is it true that this type of damage is caused by morons who don't know how to remove the barrels?

Mark

ps. Have you found the straight gripped DH you were in search of?

I would let a pro screwhead fixer at it. Good Luck ch

Hi Mark,
The quickest repair would be to make a new one, I have also had good luck welding them up and making a new slot with the appropriate file. I think the straight stock guns look sharp with a high slender stock like yours.
I did find a DHE with a straight stock and 32" barrels. It's an old trap gun with a really high stock (15"X1 1/4"X1 3/4"), it's a bit of a relic but it handles like a dream. I was looking for something with a little more condition, but I'm not disappointed with what I ended up with.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Chris,

That hinge pin screw needs attention, but I've never dealt with a buggered screw that big before and was wondering how to attack it.

Glad you found a 32.
