My grouse buddy this morning

This guy comes to feed on sunflower seeds under my bird feeder nearly every morning and evening and is quite fat and happy for it. Today he's hunkered down in the sun right in front of the house. I love it that he feels safe that near to me. He's quite used to me and won't even move when I walk by only 10ft away on the way to the outhouse. Won't be long before he selects his drumming logs and the music begins....

It's 5:25pm and he's still there... he made a new hole a foot away though. I've been coming and going all day and he just makes himself at home....

Rich, Ten or so years ago we had a hen Pa'tridge make herself a home at my local gun club. No one had seen a grouse on the property for 5 years before that! But her she was..she showed no fear and would walk around the grounds all day even with the shooting going on. She loved donut crumbs....It got to the point that she would be waiting in the road leading to the clubhouse for the first member to open up. And then she was gone after about a month...we figured some pedator finally got her. I have a picture of her hanging on the wall in my den. A wonderful bird....

How could she be hanging on the wall of your den if "a predator finally got her"?

I love to hunt them out in the forest but in my yard they're safe. I won't let any of my friends bring a dog to my house during drumming. At times they've gotten so used to me that I've fed them seeds at my feet like chickens, or I'd sit in a chair under the feeder and they'd just come up and eat right beside me as I read a book in the sun, 8-10 at a time a few yrs back. They know who their friends are and when you are an asset vs being a threat. I'm sure I could get one to eat out of my hand if I put some time into it.
