Just wondered if the place has been selected for our annual meeting. Will it be about the same date as last year. Will there be shooting competition?

There will be LOTs of shooting at the annual meeting in SC. First it is in conjunction with the Fall Southern SXS at Backwoods. In addition there will be the first Parker Champion Shoot, a handicapped 75 round Sporting Clays event and then the PGCA "North-South" team shootoff. The Southern has two sponsored 50 round events events each broken down into gages and then the main event both prelim and final. This will be the best shooting event off 2012!!

The event is Oct 26,27 &28th with the PGCA annual meeting on Friday the 26th at the Quality Inn. That facility has given us a rate of $61/night and their banquet hall holds 100+ with a separate banquet room for display.

Usually its a choice of travel and expenses, but this year I'll add to my list: shooting clays and gathering with friends at the banquet vs being in the field with friends at prime hunting time and maybe a dinner of grouse, woodcock and/or rabbits.
I expect to have more years sitting around a banquet table than years I can walk the woods, so I think hunting wins the day this year.

I can't imagine having something like this right in the heat of hunting season. I know I'm out, no way I'd waste three or four days messing around shooting clay birds when I could be shooting real ones.

I'm right there with Eric, Jent, Robin and Destry. No one loves to shoot clays and hang with the guys more than I, but the call of the wild wins out as long as I can still do it. Something in May, between the Southern and Hausmann's would make sense.

how far is the hotel from the actual site, is there room for a motor home on site you know with no low trees over road?

Mr. C,
it is about a 20 minute drive from hotel to range.
You are good to go with the RV. No trees from what I remember.

Well you guys have fun and I hope you have a good turn out but for the first time in about nine or ten years I won't be able to attend and I am sorry about that. Maybe next year somemore thought can be put into the planning of the meeting.

Is this Quality Inn in Georgetown, SC??
David Dwyer

Bill
Yes,the Quality Inn is in Georgetown and the managers name is Brandy. There is a large parking area specifically for large vehicles and I believe there will be a law enforcement presence during our stay. Gary, you may be able to put your motor home at Backwoods but need to check with Rick Hemingway,843-546-1466, on that.

Now I will try and make the OGCA show it's been awhile since I have gone down there and it's a great show. I'll let you know and I wouldn't mind if you brought some of that wine too.....
I know the BOD was looking for a new spot, but in talking to some members the last few days I think this time you missed the mark.....and I was asked to come out and say it... I hope you get the turn out, just not sure you will. Eric

All that have voiced an opinion on the selection of the 2012 Annual Meeting location, thank you, and just let me say that your Board of Directors spent several hours considering a site. It was not just a quick decision and much input went into the decision. Several venues were considered.
1. Time of year (hunting season) It was felt that dove season starts in most sates in September, grouse in early October, Pheasant mid October, quail in November, etc. and there would be plenty of opportunities for all members to have time to shoot feathered targets before and after the Annual meeting.
2. Shooting grounds that also offers a gun show-exhibitor-vendor venue.
3. Motels and conference rooms large enough to accomodate attendees.
4. Driving and or flying time.
5. Membership geographical location.
6. Backwoods is a premier location with outstanding well attended shooting, parking, club house facilities---(also selected to host the 2013 International Sporting Clays competition).
Just a little background that was factored into your Board's decision. Much sole searching goes into selecting annual meeting locations.
Hopefully, this will clarify some of the decision process the Board goes through regardless of the final site location.
Thanks, Bill

To keep this in perspective the distance from Sanford,NC to Georgetown SC is only 190 miles.

Those who go will have stories to tell about guns they have found there. I'm running a little short of small bore hammer guns.

Dave "Only 190 miles" that's another 3 hours of drive time (seventeen hours for us) for any of us northerners  plus it's in primetime bird season in most areas of the country. I hope it works out but I have my doubts. Eric

What a bunch of whiners!! I drove 2400 miles one way to the annual meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, last September and have come, flying or driving, to eight of nine The Vintage Cups since I moved west in 2002. Either say you are going to come or don't. Or, run for the board and take responsibility.
I miss the big PGCA presence Ron use to have at the winter Las Vegas show, but if someone doesn't volunteer to do it, it isn't going to happen!!

I agree we should have a positive attitude, but our presence at Winter Vegas some years ago was like a pea in a pot of pea soup. We made a presence at the Vintagers and at the OGCA, but not at Vegas.

It takes 20-30 nice Parkers to put up a decent display. A couple people would have to drive and haul guns, stay in hotels, pay the fees, I 'll bet it would cost a couple thousand out of their own pocket. I know we spend $500 to $700 each when we do Pheasant Fest. Sometimes when we see "the PGCA oughta do this or that", people don't realize that there is no PGCA with a gun display and somebody has to have the guns, bear the expense themselves, haul the guns and set up and man the display . I know from my own experience that people get burned out and say"enough".

Rick's is a wonderful venue. I'm sure everything will work out.

Well, I did not mean to start a rucuss just wondered where and when one other question will we be able to have a tables for display? Yes it gets old hauling guns from one venue to another but when a person that does not know what a Parker is stops and ask questions, you get a chance to tell him about the best side by side made in this country it makes it all worth while and also gets new members!

There is a nice Grade 3 20 ga. Lifter coming to auction pretty soon if you don't mind setting your float plane down onto the Kennebec.
