Yesterday we received in the mail a reprint of a book from the 1940's by Mr. LL Bean. The book is on outdoor pursuits and it is very well done with updates by Mr. Bean's great grandson. It is done in period style and the updates don't detract from the appearance of the little book. On page 34 is a photo of a young woman with a limit of woodcock and she is holding what looks to be a small bore Parker.
I applaud LL Bean for getting back to their hunting and fishing heritage and especially Bill Gormly, the great grandson who is probably responsible for this.
I guess we got our copy because we have been good customers. We did not order it but it is a nice keepsake and we will remain good customers.

I've got an original copy of the book floating around somewhere, I'll have to look for that picture.

Bill is a really nice guy and was instrumental in our 2010 PGCA Annual Meeting's Silent Auction. I spoke with Bill on the phone and we were able to facilitate the donation of a nice pair of L.L. Bran's Maine Hunting Shoe boots as well as a Collector's Trout Knife and a few other items. L.L. Bean's Parker 20 ga. DHE "crossover" gun is still on display at the Freeport, Maine store.

I know you are an avid fowler Destry and FYI, I believe the folks at LL Bean sent the book to my wife because she has purchased some of their cork decoys for me a couple of times. The Bean decoys are referenced in the book.
Also, as a point of interest, my 13 year old son is doing a science fair project on which ducks winter here and what they eat during winter. He is working with the refuge next door to our place. Here are a couple of photos I took this week when he was "duck watching". Mostly mallards and a few sprig.
