I would like to give a heads up, or a caution, on Parker CHE 16 gauge listed on Nevada Auction (Proxibid), Jan 1 as lot #199. After a conversation with the owner, as listed in the DelGrego letter and looking at the pictures I have found what looks to be substituted (non-Parker) barrels on this shotgun. There is no barrel address or barrel steel type on the rib. The owner insists it is a Parker barrel, but I have included a picture of the barrel flats https://www.proxibid.com/AuctionImages/1734/46873/199-9.jpg. which tells the real story. This Parker is listed as a straight stock with 28" barrels in the serialization book and now it is being sold as a pistol grip with 26" barrels.
You be the judge.
Thought someone might want to know.

Is there any stamping on the side of the lug? We need good rib pictures to tell you what you have there. They have some characteristics of Remington barrels, but no repair codes and the serial number stamp is a bit sloppy. The rib will tell the tale. The stock appears to be a Del Grego job. What does the letter say? If they are Remington barrels, the different length is no mystery.

Should not Rem barrels have the Overload Proved stamp on the flats? I have a C 16 with replacement barrels and it does.
Still looking for a replacement set of good 1 frame damascus ejector 16's to bring it back to originality. 125 thou SN.

Bruce, until we see the rib and the left side of the lug, we can't make any intelligent determination. Yes, I think it should have the Overload stamps, but I don't have a lot of Remington barrels to compare. I have never seen a Remington barrel with serial number stamps that bad. Some of the replacement barrel people in the sixties tried to imitate Parker markings but seldom did a good job. Lefever is another possibility. Let's see those pictures.

There are no pictures of the rib or barrel lug in the auction listing, but I was told on the phone by the owner that there is no stamping on rib at all, just matting from muzzle to breech.

Here is a picture of my remington barrels that were put on a 16 ga. damascus gun. The serial number isn not on the side of the lug. It doesn't have the inscription on the rib either.

With this sloppy job of adding barrel serial number stamping (obviously changed by a beginner) and stock changed from straight stock to PG with checkered butt, as shown in DelGrego letter
http://www.proxibid.com/AuctionImages/1734/46873/199-13.jpg,
I think it's foolish to bid even at current price of $3888 with preminum.

Bill Anderson, all late Remington replacement barrels are devoid of logo. The exact style of matting is the important thing. David, you are the man. You will get a great gun if you win.

The ten gauge was a steal. No way it would go for such a price if I were at the auction. The CHE 16 was obviously an original gun with Remington replacement barrels unless the auction was not on the up and up.

Amateur looking barrel flat stamping on a replaced barrel and a replacement stock by DelGrego could never be a great gun at any price for me.

Mr. Anderson, There are many collectors who feel as you do and I can totally understand and appreciate that. But a very experienced collector whom you have heard of once bought a very nice but very refinished lifter 16ga told me, "it's pretty and it is what it is..." I learned there is always a place in my safe for a nice gun even if it isn't without a colored past... And when repros in 20ga go for $4500 with machine created DH engraving, what is a true CHE 16ga worth even with replacement barrels? To each their own.
