I took Gunner out last Thursday for a short morning hunt. We went to the Haymarsh as work wasn't going to interfere with my life untill late afternoon so we went in search of Pheasants.

Gunner has the heart and soul of a puppy but at 14 he is slowing down. He's about deaf as a post but responds to a wistle and hand signals. He has given me the forlorn look to many times so far this fall and I just owed it to him to get him in the field. He wears a beeper collar so I can hear him (sometimes) and an orange vest so I can see him as my hearing is only marginally better than his.

Although no birds were harmed in this excursion time in the field with a good dog and a Parker is priceless. We will return.

Gunner is one good looking old dog. I wish I had aged so well.

Rich,
You have been blessed to have Gunner for 14 yrs. He is a great looking dog. You are so right about a good dog and a Parker. You have them both.
Now only if you had a wife who liked to clean your birds and reload your shells would you have the perfect life. No wait- the wife makes so much money you would'nt have to waste time working. Now that is the life!
May you have at least one more double over Gunner this year.

Rich. Give thanks to the Almighty for every day you have Gunner with you. I had to put mine down at 12. A real hunting machine and lover to the family. Have 6 year old Wire Haired to take his position, but not his place. All too soon he too will be the old dog teaching the younget one what to do. Get her out as often as you can. Jim

I think it's mighty nice of Gunner to let Rich go along on the hunt! That dog is a hunting machine...
