I recently picked up an very interesting VH from 1916. It's a 32" live bird gun, no safety and double triggers. It's choked with 35 points in each barrel and has been shot a lot, but when I removed the receiver the head of the stock was very clean and solid. Shot a lot, but cared for. Weighs right at 8lbs 3oz. At some point someone shaved the comb down, but it still shoots where you look. The neat part is the engraved rib "Made To Order For LW Cummings". I've been able to track down LW's son and I spoke to the grandson last week. I'm hoping I can get enough information for an article.

That is a very interesting find! It is our duty as keepers of the flame, to track down as much provenance/info on these guns as possible.
In this case, this gun has provided the link to its own provenance.

I forgot to mention, this gun was one of three ordered at the same time with an inscription on the rib. The records don't say what the inscription was on the other guns. I'd love to find them.

Ed My 32 inch VHE live bird gun (170789) of about the same period, has a similar little scroll of engraving hiding the safety slot filler.
