I knew this title would get some attention so now that I have it get your minds out of the gutter and think bird hunting.

Grouse season opens here in less than a month and it's time to get the hunting guns out for some practice. My go to Grouse gun a 26 inch open choked DHE 20 will miss the opening weekend for the first time in the 10 or so years I have had it. In its place will be two Virgins that I have never had afield befor as they are new adoptions. The first is a GHE damascuss 20, 26 inch bbls choked IC/M, the second gun also a 20 and choked the same way is the H&H. As the season unfolds various "Guns of Fall" will find their place in the Great Outdoors.

For the opener however it will be an ageing man an old dog and two Virgins. Life is good:)

Yeah Rich, but remember when you trip and fall with your "Guns of Fall" (especially that sweet H&H) that you roll in mid-decent to land on your back or your shoulder or even your face... anything to keep from breaking the stock through the wrist... I can hear Rich now... "Oh Mr. Trevallion...?"

I have stumbled and done some pretty fancy footwork in the woods but fortunatly have never had a serious fall.

So, I gather you're not a serious grouse and woodcock hunter then, right?

I'll chalk it up to a excellent sense of ballance and cordination...of course the dog goes into the really thick stuff so I can shoot.

I believe that's exactly why early man began training dogs to hunt for him - to get into the thick stuff and roust the game out for him.

Mr. Anderson,
I seen the title of your post, and thought you found a couple of cooks for Grouse camp. :-)

I wouldn't think of ruining a good Grouse camp with that type of Virgin:nono:

I understand that they are as hard to find these days as a canvas back!
