Parker gun found in walls.

Hi,
During a recent remodel, a Parker Shotgun was discovered up in the soffiting. After some research on this site, I have determined it's a grade 0 (V) with vulcan steel barrel, made in 1912 (serial number 158787).

Pics are at the site linked below. I am curious to know what an approximate value would be, and what sort of restoration would be possible without diminishing the value. I think it's been sitting in the soffit for decades.

On another board there have been Pennsylvanina rifles found in attics, John Alden's wheel lock was found boarded up in a wall and now Parkers in Soffits.

We live in a very old house and all we find are small old bromo bottles ( an old man born in the house in the 1920's told us his grandfather took one after every diner and tossed the bottle into the weeds - guess grandma wasn't much of a cook )

It happens -

In about 1957 or 1958 our minister's son and I were snooping around in the attic of the parsonage and we found a stash of muskets and flintlocks - 7 in all - under a floor plank, wrapped in oilcloth. They were probably hidden there just after the American Revolution.

Coincidentally, my oldest granddaughter is directly related to John Alden through her paternal grandmother. My granddaughter's name is Isabella Alden Woods. Massachusetts roots all the way back!!

The gun does not look very bad. A clean up is all I would do. With a value $2000 to 2500 restoration would be a waste of $$ never to be recouped.

Dean, my early forebears got run out of Massachusetts. We still have some old Isreal Putnum family documents and history, he was fairly well known in Mass, another military man in the family history.

Here in Redding,CT we have a very nice wooded park named Putnum Park. It was named for General Isreal Putnum and was the site of his winter encampment. There are still buildings for the officers quarters,a few cellar holes and the remains of many fire pit's for the enlisted troops. Danny and I spent many a summer afternoon there hiking back when he was small.

Anyway back to the "hole in the wall" Parker.....:rolleyes:

More found guns-
My first gun(Deer Rifle ) and the one I used for my first Deer was an old 1873 Springfield that my father found in an abandoned chickenhouse. The forend had been cut down and the barrel was bent slightly, so we had to aim about a foot to the left.
My second gun was a Mint Springfield 1873 Carbine that my cousin found in the attic of an abandoned house in Arkansas. I talked it away from him for $30.00 and still have it.
