View Full Version : The Affair

It started the same way all affairs begin...innocently without malice. I was just cruising the web one evening not looking for anything special just bored and wasting time. I had gone through several of my "favorites" and was almost ready to log off when she popped up as if out of nowhere. She was pettie, her statistics gave the impression she would be fast and nimble in the right hands and she had a butt that was to die for. Just to put iceing on the cake she is English. I have always had a secret desire for the English persuasion.

She was dropd dead georgeous and way out of my league so I figgured I was safe as there was no way we would ever connect. The more I looked the more enamored I became it was like an addictive drug I just couldn't pull away from. Any time I was at the computer I'd pull up her picture and imagine what would be like to have her for my very own. She was classy in every sense of the word and I relinqished myself to the fact that the computer screen was as close as i was ever going to come to her.

Fate can and does play cruel trick on a person. While attending one of the SXS shoots there she was in the flesh. She had come with a southern gentleman who I happened to know and he introduced us. She liked to hunt but favored Rough Shooting to Driven birds. I asked if she had ever hunted Grouse and she replied negatively but added that it sounded like fun. We were getting along and took a walk to the Sporting Clays course. It was here that she revealed a slight problem she was haveing internally that would require professional help and that if we were to get along and further the possibility of a relationship she wanted to be upfront and honest. To say I was smitten would be an understatement.

The weeks went by and one day I got an E-Mail that her problem had been succesfully corrected and if i was still interested in her she would like to come to Michigan for a visit. Boy was I! She came and was a delight to hold and more wonderfull than I remembered. Were looking forward to our first Grouse hunt together in September.

Be carefull what you wish for it just might come true, thats how I became the current caretaker of a wonderfull Holland & Holland 20 bore.

I happened to be close by when first Mr. Anderson touched her. It was obviously an electrifying moment for both of them and even Mr. Eis seemed somewhat smitten even as he attempted to talk some sense into his companion... but it was not to be. Anderson snatched up the pretty little Brit and ran off to the clays course with her.
Some of us were even present when he discovered her misgivings... sad indeed, to say the least. At least I was gentleman enough to destroy those pictures...(and the soundtrack).

After all these years Anderson...You never fail to amaze me. I think you must suffer from a split personality. On one side there is the writer/poet and on the other....well.....just you......

Wonderful story Rich...Thanks for sharing it.....

Oh and Dean....I still have the soundtrack.....

I assume we could be allowed to see pictures of the little Holland. What model and vintage is the new gun?

In case Richard is a little late in seeing your question you can look here:

That shoot was an expensive shoot for both Rich and me, I almost got away but Sunday afternoon was my downfall :banghead: Should have known not to take that last walk around...

There was something strangely familiar about Rich's story, and then I remembered ~ "MOANA" ~ Actually, it's "Double-O-Moana"... I searched a while, but unfortunately with the passing of time that particular 2008 PGCA Christmas thread is no longer in the Parker forum archives. However, someone from another club had copied and pasted it to their web site, and that is where I found it... At the time I wrote that story, Rich with his many resourceful gun buying anecdotes and adventures was a good inspiration... My buxomous and seductive Moana fully understands Rich's undeniable attraction to the Svelte small-bore english Tart;) he continued to chase, but there's just one thing missing, I don't recall Rich's mysterious girl having a name.... Some of you might remember this story at the link below, the title was "Confessions of a (poor boy) double gun admirer"... And Yes, Miss Moana is alive and well and still lives with yours truly...

Ah Moana. Didn't old Ben have something to say about the benefits of pursuing older women, and concluding it with "and they are oh so grateful".
