Some of you may recall I posted a picture of our old yellow lab, Cody, we lost last year. Unfortunately we also lost his young replacement, Cisco, on Friday the 13th this past May. Only three years old, he was run over by a state fish hatchery truck. Accidents can happen in a split second so be ever vigilant.
Bruce Day encouraged me to share this when I sent him condolences on the loss of his bird dog.
Here are a couple of photos of Cisco with me. First is in 2008 when he was just 7 months old.
Second photo is a year later at 1 year 7 months. I have others from this past year in my son's camera memory card I may post later. He was a good boy and had a sweet personality.
On a positive note, right after losing Cisco I found out I needed a stent and got that done before more condolences were needed!
We picked up our new pup, a pretty little girl from the same kennel where we got Cisco, at the Albq. airport this past Monday. Life goes on.

Peter, thanks for allowing us to express our support. Very difficult to lose a dog friend and companion.
I hope the best for your fall hunting with your new buddy in the beautiful San Luis Valley. I see there is some wood playground equipment for the young lab to eat. Then, I hope the stent works well....I think we are about the same age.

Peter, An old friend and hunting companion, Max, went down three months ago. A month ago I brought home a two month old successor, Archie, and I was born in '36. Dean commented that the little booger would keep me busy and he was absolutely right.
The Best, Fred

Fred - It looks like you're partial to Springers. Is your new pup a Springer? If so, is he from one of the Ohio kennels? There are a number of good springer breeders/trainers down there. I gunned over their dogs for years in Trials

John, The new one is a GSP, a first for me. I've mostly had Pointers for birds. Max was a "hybrid" Lab. He and the also gone Pointer, Ringo, made a great team in the MI covers: Ringo going wide with a beeper, and Max a close working, deliberate flusher. Max was the best "dead" finder I've had. I have hunted with some really fine Springers, especially those of Bob DeSanto's. His bitch , Star, had a great feid trial record and you could depend on her the find and flush a grouse or woodcock up in your part of the country.

Our friends are here for such a short time so we treasure each and every day we have with them. When it's time for them to leave we treasure their memory. Hopefully we will reunite again in a better covert. You have my most sincere sympathy for your loss.

Oddly, I just received this in an e-mail as an anecdote to a completely unrelated topic...
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender - your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Thanks to all for the kind words. Our pup is doing fine and she is a little pistol. Will post a photo soon.
