I just purchased an AYA 28ga made in 1977. Thoughts on shooting modern target loads through this gun? Or should I just stick to low pressure?

1977 gun should have 2 3/4" chambers, modern ammo is fine( except for those new 3" shells)

What Harold said.... 1977 is a modern gun and is made to accept modern loads!!

Excellent. Appreciate the info. Checked out the gun today. Weighs a little over 5lbs and locks up tight. Can’t wait to try it out.

Do you have any pictures? I have a FAIR Iside basic 28 but I've been on the hunt for a more vintage gun. AYA, Ugartechea, etc. I had a old Stoeger / Victor Sarasqueta, but it just didn't fit. I handled an AYA #3 that was just what I wanted, but priced way above what I thought it should be.

You will like that gun. I have two of the later 453s, both in 28 gauge, and they’ve been wonderful bird guns for me for many years.

That is great to hear. Debating on taking it grouse hunting next weekend.

What a little sweetheart!
I have a Ugartechea grade 1 28 GA with 27 in barrels, st grip, and enjoy grouse hunting with it. Also have grade 2 20 GA with 27 in barrels, 27 in swings nicely. Interestingly the 20 weighs less than the 28 by 1 ounce, around 5.5 lbs

The Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives (CIP) standards were ratified by Spain in 1973

The flats should be marked either
1000 kg/cm2 (proof) = 14,223 psi for a service load of 9,473 psi + 10 – 14% or about 10,500 psi
or more likely 1200 kg/cm2 = 17,068 psi for a service load of 800 kg/cm2 = 11,380 + 10 – 14% or about 12,500 psi - which is the SAAMI 2 3/4" 28g pressure max.
