Who would have ever thought 8 pounds of Unique would be going for just under $500 with the hazmat charge.

$400 for an 8 lb jug of E3. That's a very good powder. Buy them when you see them.

Have they officially ceased 20/28 production?

Pete, Unique was my first love for my 20 ga. 870 in high school days, less than $20 a pound. Scary what we now pay for powder. Recently bought some Reloader 22. $90 a pound. Fortunately split the order with a couple of friends, they also bought powder so the hazmat split 3 ways.

When the last of my Unique is gone it's gone for good. Currently you can buy 8lbs of Winchester 572 or Hodgdon Longshot for $100 to $120 less than Unique. They all make a gun go boom.
Scary indeed. "Inflation is as violent as a mugger, as frightening as an armed robber and as deadly as a hit man." Ronald Reagan.

I switched to Longshot a while back when powder was impossible to find. Good stuff.I now use it for a number of loads, different gauges. It is excellent for low pressure loads for Damascus, get you down in the 5000s. Cheap and readily available. Only drawback I see is in cold weather it doesn't burn real clean but I'm suspicious that's true with most low pressure loads. That's certainly been my experience.

I have switched to Longshot for 16 and 20ga 7/8oz loads. Unique in 3/4oz 16 and 20ga loads. A Longshot 3/4oz 2 1/2" Cheddite hull tested load was just posted on the 16ga Society web forum. I plan to give it a try.
I did find Brownells price on Unique the lowest yesterday.

Unique is a favored powder but the cost is ridiculous. Longshot is available, cheaper and works well in 16, 20 and 28ga 3/4oz loads and produces lower pressures.
