Could this recoil pad have been original on a 1905 grade D?

That appears to be an Ithaca starburst pad.

Isn't 1905 too early for an Ithaca Sunburst pad??

Dave will know by memory, but if I remember correctly, 1932.

There was a time when Ithaca promoted the sale of their pads on the sporting goods market.

Look at that gun very carefully especially the top rib extension where it meets the top rib.

The Ithaca "bridge Trestle" Recoil Pad was introduced in the first 1932 Ithaca Gun Co. catalog --

143023

Pre-war the face of the pads were marked "PAT. APPL'D FOR" at the bottom of the logo --

143022

Post-war they are marked "PATENTED" as are the repros.

In 1950 Ithaca introduced the aluminum base version.

143024

For 1966 Ithaca began using this pad --
