We’re working on assembling the menu for the Feed. There will be quail, back-straps and fatties, so far. If anyone is planning on bringing grub, chime in. I know some guys are bringing horse d’ ovaries and David D/Steve R will have the smokers cranking up too. It’s gonna be sweller than last year, and that’s hard to beat!

Maryland sweet corn. Looks like we have enough protein, meat wise, so how about a pasta salad?

What are “Fatties” ?

Roll out bulk sausage, put cheese and stuff inside of it, roll it back up. Then wrap it with a lattice of bacon and cook it on a grill. The combinations are almost limitless. I’m thinking doing Southwestern style and Hawaiian style (keeping with the Friday theme).

That sounds tastey ! Back 55-60 years ago we’d go in the local Safeway grocery to buy stuff and they’d added what they called a deli . You could buy darn good fried chicken and these red fat sausage hunk looking things . My pop called them kielbasa , I suspect a weee lad like yourself with your ancestry might not agree but they sure were good . They looked kinda red in the warming thing anyway they had a really nice smoked taste . I’d be rather enthused if you made your rendition of kielbasa ! I used to go to a Steam and Gas show outside of Pittsburgh put on by a guy named Willis Abel at Mineral Beach anyway he’d usually have four or five ladies running lunch trailers you could get darn good kielbasa and gyros that was about forty years ago !

We get good kielbasa. Fresh and smoked. I might have some venison kielbasa in the freezer? We’ll see what I can do.

For those that have no idea what a “fattie” is beyond what Pete posted, here are two. First is Southwestern and second is Hawaiian….

Southwestern fattie is bacon lattice, country sausage base, onions, salsa, Mexican cheese blend, chili powder and Cajun seasoning. It will be topped with Spanish rice and salsa.

Hawaiian fattie is bacon lattice, ground pork base, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, crushed pineapple. It will be topped with crushed pineapple.

Bacon makes everything better! Do yourself a favor, crispy fry some bacon, let it cool then crumble it up and sprinkle it over your favorite ice cream. OR, fry it up crispy and sink it in melted chocolate, remove it and allow it to cool on wax paper. You're welcome.

Do you mean putting those bacon bits on my maple walnut ice cream instead of maple syrup? Gee, I'm not sure that would be a good thing.

I always figured an automobile or booze was going to kill me atleast thirty years ago . So eating a bunch of stuff the surgeon general deems unacceptable doesn’t bother me to much . :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

I think I’m going to do two different styles of quail this year. We’ll have the dry rub/bacon wrapped/ Traeger smoked quail but I will also make my Greek style quail. That is seared in oil then cooked in a thick sauce chock full of onions. Y’all will like it.
