I’m looking at a nice M42 at the LGS. Nice wood, solid rib, nice condition.

I really don’t know anything about these. It’s just been marked down to $3,500. Does that seem reasonable?

Can't see any serial numbers, choke markings, specifications like barrel length etc. You have to tell us those facts. Looks like a really nice stock. The engine turning on the breech bolt would only be factory on a Deluxe Grade, but the checkering pattern is not a factory Deluxe Grade. The stock is a bit fancy for a Skeet Grade, but there are a few Skeet Grades that are this fancy. If your gun is field choked, it is not likely factory original with that fancy wood. However, your gun appears to be in original metal finish and would be very valuable, original or not.

Need better photos, serial number, wood looks aftermarket. LGS meaning?

The gun was made in 1949 looks like a solid rib, what's the choke, picture of pistol grip cap, buttplate muzzle. My guess is a nice 42 that's had aftermarket work . Like wood and engine turning on bolt.

Barrel is 26in, choke is full. Just to put this in one place.

To me $3500 is in the ballpark if you really like it and it fits you. I would like it more at $3000. But hard to say without holding it, was it reblued and if so correctly. Lettering sharp? What's the LOP ? FULL is the most common choke, any other is more valuable, especially skeet.

The gun looks to have been heavily refinished. Does the left side of the action show a pin in the top middle? The pictures don’t show it but the pictures aren’t showing the whole side.

After market wood & reblue. Can't tell if it's got a rib or not. No rib= $2000. Solid rib= $2400

A solid rib is evident in the pictures. David Porter's estimate of value is probably closer than James Martin's. A collector would not be interested at the LGS price. I would like to harvest that wood for use on a minty skeet gun, but not for the price mentioned.
