A great deal of the pleasure I get from time in the fields and woods today is a result of the time I spent with my father when I was young. He's been gone for years but I still miss him and there is never a time when I am afield that I don't think of him. Here's an old song from Chet Atkins that pretty much sums it up.

I miss my Dad too. I only hope I've been the kind of dad to my kids that my Dad was to me... I've tried.

Much of what a man is today was learned from his father at a very young age. Both the good and the not so good. My father was middle aged when I was born. He had served in both World Wars (even serving on the Mexican Border prior to WW1 with Captain Patton and General Pershing). He lived through the great depression. He was in the automobile business when all cars used in the United States were made in the United States. He hunted with a Fox Sterlingworth double (his only gun that I remember). He taught me the value of hard work and modesty. He has been gone since 1974 and I still miss him.
Happy Father's Day To All and Best Regards, George
