I’m not a shell collector and have no idea if this shell has any value. Found it in an antique shop in Arundel, Maine today.

I first see the CLUB paper NPEs in the 1887 UMC catalog --

136033

By the 1901 UMC catalog they had gone to the NEW CLUB on their loaded shells and the NPEs were called UNION --

136034

Two 10-gauge NEW CLUB NPEs sold in the recent Wards Auction for $5.

So mine would appear to have been made between 1887 and 1901 and the fact that it is a 14 gauge might make it even more unusual (rare)?

Dean,

Did the shell use a berdan primer or is something in the primer pocket?

It looks like the anvil is in the pocket.

Looks like the priming compound in that UMC No. 2 primer just corroded much of it away. I would believe being a 14-gauge would add considerable over a 10- or 12-gauge in the collector market, but what that price is I have no idea.

When I saw this shell of Dean's I went to look at a box of 14 gauge Winchesters I have in my display case. Once I opened them I realized that I had never opened them before. As you can see the box has a little corrugated piece of cardboard to take up some space and make them fit in the box properly. And look at that weird crimp on the top.

Researcher is the only person that I think might have some information on these 14ga shells. Although the load markings on the box are likely correct, the picture shown on the back of the box is of a different shell.
I hope Dave see's this and brings us enlightenment!

Oh my! Metallic cartridges!

I wonder how long those were produced.
