I’m sure there is already data out there but I’m not finding it. What I have found uses powder that is no longer available. Any help is appreciated. I have 2 1/2”cheddite shells and can cut STS’s down. Thanks

I use the same data I use for 2 3/4" light loads. Just substitute a wad that takes a little less room.

Not an expert but I have been using
Chedite hulls
Chedite primer
Extra lite powder mec number 25 bushing
1 oz shot
Seems to work well

I can’t find extra lite in stock or any data for it.

If using light load data does that always mean lower pressure too? And how do you know what wads work without buying 500 of them.

Visit the Hogdons reloading site. They not only have recipes but a wad substitution chart. Also look at Alliant reloading and the Claybuster wad site for loads and both straight and tapered wads for STS and Cheddite et al. Purchase a good scale from eBay and weigh your reloads. Better be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Most low pressure 2 3/4 loads fit a lot better in 2 1/2. I know plenty if want some

Thanks Jeff,
If you don’t mind I would appreciate anything you got.
FYI I have STSs I can cut down and a few Cheddite 2 1/2” shells.
Do you think I could use my clay buster wads that are tapered for Remingtons in the straight walled Cheddites? I know it’s not recommended but it’s worked before. I’m sure I’d lose some pressure but in this case that’s a good thing.

Actually in the new Lyman 6th edition there is lots of straight wall hull with tapered wad recipe

About any recipe with 572 or perfect pattern 8000 psi and under will fit in a 2 1/2. If not you end up putting Cheerios in them to crimp good in 2 3/4. I’ve mainly been using Fio hulls and federal hulls in 12 gauge because they sell them at the club I shoot at and there is plenty on the ground.
