How difficult is it for a nonresident to buy shotgun shells in Vermont?

Seriously though, pistol permits, hunting licenses, Ammunition ID cards; Just about anything that says you know which end of the gun the bullet leaves from.
Some places look at the docs, and say yup (some don't actually even ask) and some point their laser scanner at it.
You have to have something in CT to even buy a bag of shot, but you can buy some training weights you strap on your ankle (or ex wife) and need nothing.

I’ve never had a problem buying ammo in Vermont John, but then I almost always bring plenty with me. Vermont is where I have hunted for my entire adult life, with only a few forays to Maine, NH and Ohio.
For such a left-leaning state Vermont’s gun laws are very lenient. In fact, anywhere you can carry a long arm in Vermont you can carry a handgun.

I was visiting my daughter in college in CT. Thought I would pick up some ammo at Cabelas on the way home.....Was told I would need a non-resident long gun permit, which I could get after an 8 hour class.
It's actually worse than NY.

John, I bought some pheasant loads in Northern VT at a gas station on my way to Maine recently, they were right next to the donuts. They only checked my ID for Heady Topper (one of my favorite brews), so go figure.

Looks like my youngest daughter, Parker, may be attending the University of Vermont in the fall as a freshman. Thought maybe at some point over the next four years I might try and make the Vermont State Trap shoot. I think I can manage flying with guns but might have trouble with three or four flats of shells. :rolleyes:

You’d like to think any state trap shoot would have ammo available at the shoot , but in this day and age I’d not take that for granted anylonger .

John might I suggest , if you don’t already have a hard case or two long enough for 32-34 inch barrels start searching for some used Nasco or Americase cases . If they’re long enough I’m sure you can always find someone to redo the interior compartments . There may be others that stand up as well but I’ve personally seen Americase and Nasco cases stand up to some pretty intense bangs drops collisions whatever you care to call it . Now the downside is they aren’t light !

Go into Hussy's General Store and show them any out-of-state hunting license, and walk out with your Maine license. It will have a 'Moses' number on it, which you use to renew thereafter, online.

The airlines have very limiting rules for flying with ammo. You’ll have to check with airline.
