New to the forum...like many before me, I recently acquired a Parker Brothers shotgun, and LOVE it!

From what I've learned from poking around this site, mine is a Grade 0, 12 Gauge, Twist from 1883. It's in really nice condition, with the exception that the inside of the barrel is pitted. (the rest looks real good)

The question I have is that the same 1883 serial number is on everything I've looked at so far (34317). The forearm, receiver, back of the hammers and the inside of the hammer plates. The exception is the barrel. It has a different serial number that according to the chart would date it to 1880 (18525).

Did the SN of the barrel ALWAYS match the rest of the shotgun, or where there exceptions where they may have used old parts (like other manufacturers were known to do)?

The receiver is stamped for a twist barrel and the barrel with it, is a twist. (so that's correct) The barrel closes up perfectly aligned as well.

Thank you in advance for any insight.

This is my first double barrel and certainly the oldest firearm I have, but I instantly fell in love with it.

The serial number for the barrel is stamped on the left side of the rear barrel lug. The number you refer to is the order number

You are absolutely correct! (you knew that) I never saw that number tucked up in there. As expected, it matches. Everything is numbers matching.

Thank you for the response, I really appreciate it and look forward to learning more from everyone here.
