Prairie Rill does not like rainy days, or any day she can't get out and chase birds for that matter. She's not the best house dog, but Elaine uses a technique that worked with our Cedar in her last days -- open the blinds on the front window and let the birds outside "babysit" the dog. She'll point as long as she can see a bird.
Hey, it works, honest...until she saw the sundial and thought it was an intruder:banghead:

Right! Gracie would do the same thing. Her favorite daytime bed in the winter was the elevated one I made for her at the kitchen window with the bird feeder 5 feet away.

Funny you should bring this up Garry, my late pup Parker would obsess over the squirrels in the back yard, raiding the bird feeder and jumping from tree to tree. But let him out and he paid them no mind. Let it have feathers and it was a whole different story.

we know the cock pheasant is under the bird feeder when we see two dogs frozen while pressing their noses against the sliding glass door

Screen shot from a number of years ago when, on a rainy day, Gunny sat on my lap and watched YouTube videos of duck hunters calling and shooting ducks. He was fascinated by it and then as he got older he enjoyed doing it for real.

My 3 Labradors don't care about twenty birds at the feeder. Two of them will chase squirrels though.
However when they see my field pants or a gun case they know the fun is going to happen!
