Is it a concern?

I acquired what I believe to be a first year production 12 ga under lifter but I have a question. Is it unusual that it does not have the Parker Brothers inscription on the forearm like I see on other Parkers? The barrel rib is stamped with "Parker Bro Makers Meriden Conn Laminated Steel" All numbers match - 287 - on the barrel, forearm and table.

Being a very early gun, they may not yet have made the decision to identify the maker anyehere else besides the barrel rib… just my WAG.

In a word, no. Other markings allow us to identify it as Parker. Patent date on trigger plate, water table stamping, and internal markings.

BUT, there's a catch!

The "catch", both locks hand engraved upside down! I believe this to be factory done.
Serial # "capitol O" prefix, O 1248

This gun is pictured and mentioned in both The Parker Story and the Identification and Serialization books.

The case in the picture below I believe to be factory, but not necessarily made for this gun.
I acquired this gun and case from an auction.
It belonged to a PGCA member at the time.

Thanks David! That's right, never say never! I wonder if that one is engraved, because it was later on in production...1873-74? And Parker was making side locks then with the "Parker Bros." engraved on them so they started doing that on the back actions as well.

That is a wonderful gun and case. I remember reading about this gun in the Parker Story, I believe it is a 14 gauge?
