Left Gun
Meriden era
20 gauge
Zero frame
DHBP size 1
Weight 6/0
Finished BBL wgt 2/6
Barrel length 28"

Right Gun
Remington era
16 gauge
1 frame
DHBP size 0
Weight 6/10
Finished BBL wgt 2/14
Barrel length 28"

Both of these guns balance about the same point with no appreciable difference in feel other than total weight. I found it interesting there was such a size difference between the 2 stocks with the 16 ga. 1 frame being much smaller than the 20 gauge. I have other Remington era guns and have not found them to be stocked like this 16 gauge. Both stocks are original.

I have no point other than I found it an oddity.
Best!

I am surprised that a 1 frame 16g would have the 0 sized buttplate. But, there it is… They are tiny. And usually they are found on late 20g guns and 28g/410 bore guns.

I have a 0 frame 16 DHE skeleton butt gun that has a stock smaller than any 28 or .410 I have seen. The height of the butt is less than a 0 frame buttplate. I will confirm that measurement.

Dean, does the research letter address the smaller stock on the 1-frame 16 ?

No Dean, it does not. A Remington era gun with a Remington era letter.

And a Remington era letter shows us virtually nothing... Too bad.

Yes we ran into the same phenomenon in comparing the very early Parker 28 gauges relative to buttplate height and width. Most all of the early 28s were 0 frame guns but comparing 3 guns (all G grades) that coincidentally came through Wm. Wagner's DC shop in the early 1900s, we found noticeable differences in the height and width of the stock buttplates. Most interesting, to my recollection 2 of these guns were 26" and 1 was 28". The two 26" guns had the vivid difference in buttplate dimensions. Go figure!

How different are the stocks at the other end; are the frames significantly different in height, tang widths, etc. in the stock/metal dimensions?

Stock heads conform to the dimensions by frame in the chart of page 527 of The Parker Story.
