If you had two#2 frames guns one with 32" barrels that weighed 7lb. 4oz. and another gun with 30" barrels that weighed 8lb. 4oz. where does the extra pound come from? First I thought the difference must be in the wood, but then the gun wouldn't ballance right. It's hard to believe that you could make up that much weight in a set of barrels. What do you guys think? I forgot to mention, the 32" gun was a live bird gun with a heavy set of barrels too. I think they were .036" min.
Thanks,
Chris

Oh yes, the boys and girls at Meriden could and did make that much weight difference in 30-inch 12-gauge 2-frame barrels. I have a 2-frame 12-gauge GH-Grade of 1889 vintage that started life with 32-inch barrels but they are now 30-inch and the gun weighs a fraction of an ounce over 9 pounds.

You could check the unstruck weight marked on the barrels to see whether they started out different or became different after striking. Let us know.

They can be all over the place.

Heavy sets, lite sets.

I have two barrel set live bird gun.
one set 34" the other 30" both weigh the same and the gun balances the same with either one on it.
Come to think of it I have never even shoot the 30" barrels. Too short.

If you can measure the barrel wall thicknesses and blue print each barrel.
You will find your answer.

I also have a grade 3 top lever hammer gun that came as an original two barrel set. #2 frame two sets of 28" 10 ga barrels one lite (over all gun wt 7 1/2 pounds) the other the "heavy set" (over all weight 8 pounds even).

I have barrels and forearm marked 2 which is the lite set, but the other is missing.

I am convinced this was ordered as a live bird gun.

John,

I have heard alot about your 34" striaght stock guns! I'm still on the lookout for my 32" DHE straight stock dream gun. 4 years of searching and counting.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

They are out there.
I remember I went thru a dry spell and it seemed like I could not find anything. Then all of a sudden the they hit the market like crazy.
Stay strong, keep it mind what you want so when it does pop up you are ready.

Good luck.

Chris, Parker could do wonders with gun weight. A lot of the weight was made up "between the hands" with degree of swamping the barrels recieved.

I know they are out there, it's getting the owner to let them go that's the problem. It would be so much easier if I could just order a new one the way I wanted!
