I got up early this morning to go hunting but before I headed out I saw I had an alert for a gun for sale on a local forum.
The posting listed the sale of a Browning Superposed 28 gauge made in the 1960’s. Also it stated that pictures would be posted later and also said it was rather used but locked up tight.
The price seemed about in line with a heavily used 20 gauge. Not being aware of what a 28 gauge would bring I took a chance and I said I would take it.
Others said they were interested but would wait for pictures. I have missed out on some great guns by hesitating.
I received a text later in the morning that the gun was mine.
Luckily the owner was only about 15 miles as the crow flys, from where I was hunting. Or 1 1/2 hours if the crow is driving a 4x4 truck deep in the hills.
Driving out I spotted 6 Javalina managed to shoot one.
I am now the proud owner of a Superposed 28 gauge.
This Superposed is much nicer than I expected. RKLT, stock is uncut and no cracks. Perfect bores 26 1/2” barrels choked M& F. It was made in Belgium in 1966.
Im still trying to gather data on this gun. It seems that there were not a lot of these made. I can't wait to try it out on some Eurasians, and some pen raised Chucker’s.
I will try to post a picture tomorrow.

28 gauge SP are scarce and big $$$ Reminds me of a morning I could not sleep and was on the net at 3AM Saw a listing for a L.C. smith 16 gauge grade 5 Made in 1901 the only grade 5 16 that year, I now own that gun and the seller was bombarded with I will take its later that morning! He was a good guy and did not cut me out, he called me and said I was the first to reply to the listing that I would take it....(-: see the pics of this one...Big-K

Nice find Phil. They are quite rare and when you find one the price is out there so if yours is in good shape you'll love it.

Phil, you can find the total early 28 gauge production by year in the Browning Superposed book. We're still waiting for pictures.

Beautiful gun Phil. The 28 is my favorite gauge. I have a 20ga Belgian which I have now decided deserves to be named Phil. Congratulations my friend. Your collection is growing. If you ever happen to attend one of the SxS events in the near future I'll have "Phil" along and we can take a picture of it with you for the record.:)

Interesting that it has "MADE FOR ABERCROMBIE & FITCH" on the barrel
