But yet the rib is properly marked with the Parker Bros Makers Meriden CT USA Vulcan Steel marking. How much does this hurt the value, if any? XTR is marked 2, for ejectors.

The book is not always gospel.
And guns could be sent back for adding of vent rib.
Does it have a flat topped frame?

What’s the definition of a flat topped frame?

The flat top of the vent rib goes back onto a flat topped frame. Which would have been made specifically for a vent rib gun. Vs a frame with a low concave rib that carries back to concave frame. If a vent rib was added it would transition down into the concave frame. This is how to tell if the gun was built from scratch with a VR or not.

It appears the rib is ramped and there is at least a slight concavity present from the doll’s head extension to the front part of the thumb latch.

A photo of the rib and top of the receiver would certainly help in the analysis.

I might be able to get photographs in a week or two. In the meantime, can anyone post photographs of what you describe?

Top picture: 0riginal vent rib left; added vent rib right.
Middle picture: Side view of original vent rib on top; added rib on bottom.
Bottom picture: Breach face of original vent rib on right; added rib on left.
Mind your lefts and rights.

John’s last picture is the most definitive.
How about ordering a research letter. THAT would be the last word on your gun.

John,
Thank you for posting that clear photo showing what I was trying to describe.

I think it appears like the one that has the added rib. I recall the fluting on the side and the divot in the rib extension, as well as not recalling the lack of concavity in the frame, but I could be wrong with regards to that as this one is more subtle.
I assume the work would have been done by Parker, as the appropriate barrel markings are present. And how would that affect value?

A Parker with a factory installed vent rib after the time of manufacture has almost as much collector value as one with a vent rib from the time of manufacture. My opinion only.
