Having problems disassembling

I am unable to remove the barrels from the frame. for some reason they will not come apart. I cocked the gun with the forehand in place and then removed the forehand and broke the gun open but the barrels will not seperate from the frame.

I could sure use some advise.

Try dry firing the gun (unloaded) sounds like the cocking hooks are not releasing sometimes that may jar them loose Ive been told.

I neglected to identify the gun. It is a VHE 20 ga. serial number 177875. I have dry fired the gun several times. After dry firing it cocks OK but after removing the forehand and opening the gun the barrels just won't lift out.

Dry fire the gun with the forend off then try removing the barrels

I just tried dry firing it with the forend off and it still does not seperate.

Dave then you are going to have to take the floorplate off to disengauge the cocking hook. So unless you are "very comfortable" ( and have the proper screwdrivers, ie hollow ground ) doing this, it is time to see a good gunsmith.

Seem to remember some previous threads with this problem with some suggestions. try the search engine. IF my recollection serves me the next step may involve checking to see if the rod (unhooking pin part 26 on the technical chart) that comes out the front of the reciever and pushes against the forend is free. It should extend out from the reciever about 1/4 inch when the forend is off and you should be able to push it in with your thumb and it should spring back. If it seems stuck somebody suggested some WD 40 and let it set for a couple days to loosen up. Hoppes might work too. After that It may require removal of the trigger plate and or a trip to a good gunsmith But see if you can track down the threads where people have adressed this problem

With someone holding the barrels open as far as possible, one can remove the screw that holds the cocking hook I believe. Works on 12 GA guns so I believe it will work on others. This avoids removing the floor plate. But be careful not to loose any parts when the hook, screw, spring, & pin come out. Then you may be able to figure out the problem.

Lets not hit the screwdrivers just yet!! Try some good lube (BREAKFREE crp) ON the pin which purtrudes from the front of the receiver and Let it soak in for a few days. Also put some into the bottom of the receiver were the cocking slide would be. Let everything set for a few days. Once the front pin moves freely the slide should release. I have been successful with this noninvasive procedure a number of times. It just requires patients!!
