Today was my first outing with a new to me 1919 SC Grade SBT gun, a late Christmas present to myself at a time of the year that's been sentimental to me after a family happening when was fifteen years old. 32" with 6+ inches of choke at 37 thou constriction and 14-5/8” LOP. She's hardly a sporting clays gun but I was itching to try her out after re-timing the ejector and now with a much lighter trigger pull at 5 pounds. Kind of a nostalgia kick, I used Federal paper reloads with 700-X powder and with the cold air their burnt wax odor really seemed to hang with our squad. Sweet! Of course I shot singles on call; first time I shot her and she did well against the modern competition semis and turned some heads for sure. :)

700 x and Federal papers, doesn’t get much better than that.

And I’ll take 95 over 35 any day.

You sissy Frank, the 20's? : ) I go ice skeeting all the time in single digits, it's tough! Is that Factoryville? I shoot my 4E at bunker in Binghamton, bring that puppy up.

Thanks everyone. Actually the 21 degrees wasn't that bad. If I hadn't been trying out the SC SBT gun I would have been shooting with one of my others. Over the years I and friends have shot sporting many times in single digit temps and sometimes with snow to boot. Yes this was at the bi-Sunday Winter League at the Factoryville Sportsmen's Club here in PA.

The only advice I can give is have electric hand warmers, flannel lined Red Head pants from Bass Pro, a heated vest, and don't wear a Mad Bomber hat because it interferes with the gun mount. Other than that, why stop shooting just because it's cold?

And this. The guns that I like to shoot for clays fit me fine when it's 60* but too long when it's 20* dressed like an Eskimo.

I was about to ask the f that was Hausemanns or Factoryville ! I never shot at a shotgun target at Factoryville when I was a member .

The cold for VA snap we’ve had the last week or two has certainly hindered my deer hunting quite a bit . I’m finding I don’t enjoy sitting in the cold as much as I once did snow or not

What Andy said or get one of these with a heater. Sure helps to knock the chill off and eliminates the need for bulky clothing.

Now that’s a man who’s serious about his Sporting Clays.

16 degrees here this morning John. Myself and 3 shooting pals are heading out shortly for a round of SC. Should be 27 by 11:00AM with bright sunny skies here in SEIN. Going to take the somewhat new to me 34" DHE out for another test drive. Not saying we won't have an occasional chill but we will be far from cold. I guess I could go in to the office, nah ! :rotf:
