I was inspired by the 2025 PGCA raffle gun to pull out a 1904 Damascus DH 12 with vivid straight grain from the head to the butt. This one demonstrates about as true a straight grain stock you will see.
The visible knot is looks almost 3D, though it’s smooth across the surface.
Any other examples the membership care to share?

The only Parker I have that's anywhere near that straight grained is a Trojan, but the grain doesn't have the contrast between the layers that your DH has. That is a beautiful gun you have there! Let me know if you ever decide to sell it.

Straight grain, black striped wood is very characteristic of Juglans Regia, no matter how many fancy Juglans Regia stocks you see on the net.

Here's my restocked 34" VH. The wood used was a 50+ year old blank of french walnut from long gone gun shop of Roy Vail.

The european approach. Good and stable quarter sawn wood. Nothing fancy, but it will hold up for a long time.

Bruce, this straight grained D grade live bird gun with 32" barrels has a serial number in the 102 thousand range.
