I recently looked at a 16 ga CHE grade gun that was in a friend's shop. It had what appears to be an ivory grip cap. I'm assuming it was a special order. I have never seen one like this before so I decided to post it in the forum to see if anyone can share their knowledge on this. Thanks

It certainly looks real, but Ivorite or celluloid is more likely. The black Parker Brothers grip caps are molded black hard rubber. If it was truly ivory, it would have been hand carved, and the detail looks more like a molded surface. This is not to say it isn't original to the gun, but it is more likely a molded material.
It certainly looks nice.

Well, the checkering has been bastardized pretty good. So I would assume that cap was also someones idea of dressing the gun up. Bubba style.

It was likely just molded from white material.

That cap was probably made with urethane with no pigment used to color it black.

Original early butt plates and grip caps were molded from gutta percha (commonly known as hard rubber) and over time and the right conditions the pigment will fade to a degree, some even going almost white. Is this one the result of such conditions? Who knows… More likely it was molded from some white material.

PS - I would have expected to see the silver oval in the toe line of the stock…

No. They will not turn that white.
