Lifter question

Hi. New to me lifter shows considerable black “soot” on right primrers and clean on left. Is this an issue? How to fix? What is happening? Thx

Check the firing pin length, looks like pierced primer. Had a new firing pin made for a Remington hammer gun which did that and it was 5 thou long.

Take them out and mic them. Or push them out with the hammers and eyeball them to see if the offender appears longer or has a burr on it or foriegn matter causing it to be longer.
I have not had the occasion to take them from a Parker but hopefully someone will tell us how.

I’ve had this happen quite often with RST shells, I attribute it to the Cheddite primers although I could be wrong on this.

When switching to Winchester primers, problem goes away. If you plan to use RST shells and/or shells with Cheddite primers, I would have firing pin protrusion measured, probably a little long on the right side.

Removing Lifter firing pins is not that hard, reinstalling them can be a little tedious. Measure the protrusion by pushing right side hammer forward while depressing front trigger, this will push the firing pin forward allowing you to measure how far the firing pin is protruding through breech face.

My lifter does this occasionally with both Cheddite and Winchester primers.

Thank you for all the responses. Do you feel I am safe to shoot as is? The gun is in fine condition but the chokes are super tight. It erases clays (if I hit them). Wish it were a bit more open.

Just a look at the fired primers shows a deep primer strike. They in fact may both be long. Push the offending pin down and see if the shape is too pointed or has a sharp tip. All the same problem really.
